Ernie Chan is General Counsel, Operations, responsible for leading Aecon’s Operational Legal function providing legal and commercial support to Aecon’s Construction and Concessions operations, which includes conducting contract negotiations, supporting projects in execution, and advising on claims and dispute resolution. Ernie supports the leadership team, including as a member of Aecon’s Project Risk Committee and as the Chair of Aecon’s Commercial Risk Committee.
Prior to joining Aecon in 2012, Ernie practiced as a lawyer at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in the firm’s litigation and alternative dispute resolution group. Before becoming a lawyer, Ernie practiced as a civil engineer at two engineering firms providing structural design services in support of telecommunications and industrial facilities.
Ernie is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from McGill University and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa.
