Kemano Generating Station Second Tunnel

This project involves constructing the second tunnel for the Kemano Generating station in Kitimat, British Columbia. Completion of a second tunnel will ensure the long-term reliability of the power supply, supporting the state-of-the-art aluminum production business by delivering clean, renewable energy to power the BC Works smelter for decades to come. The Frontier-Kemper Aecon (FKA) JV is completing the remaining 7.6 km of a 16 km secondary tunnel that connects to the Kemano Generating Station.

SECOND TUNNEL (T2) CONNECTS TO THE KEMANO GENERATING STATION

The project consists of excavation and boring of a new tunnel, installation of tunnel lining, rehabilitation of existing underground and surface excavations, installation of intake gates, and other structures. A combination of drill and blast, and bored TBM tunnel will be implemented to complete the tunnel and access routes.
