Spectra Energy Pipeline Facilities

British Columbia and Alberta

Aecon’s Master Service Agreement (MSA) contract with Spectra Energy is a four-year contract in which Aecon will construct a number of natural gas facilities in British Columbia and Alberta.

In order for Aecon to carry out the construction of these facilities projects for Spectra Energy, Aecon Industrial Management Corp. (AIMC) stepped up to answer the call. The scope of work for the MSA contract included construction work at compressor stations and related labour on pipeline facilities on the natural gas transmission system in British Columbia.

A key element in the pipeline transportation of natural gas, compressor stations are used to move natural gas through a pipeline to maintain its flow and pressure as it travels long distances. Spectra Energy is focused on ensuring the highest possible reliability of its compressor stations and looked to Aecon to drive that enhanced reliability on existing stations, while also increasing Spectra Energy’s ability to distribute natural gas throughout British Columbia and Alberta.

Inter Pipeline Expansion

Edmonton to Fort McMurray, Alberta

The project ultimately added about 840 kilometres to the Cold Lake and Polaris pipelines, and increased network capacity between oil sands-producing regions and market hubs by an additional 850,000 barrels per day.
