Aecon is pleased to partner with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to support three local charities. Through a joint $50,000 donation to both Feed the Need in Durham and the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, and a $33,000 donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington, a total of $133,000 will be contributed to benefit food banks, mental health, and youth programs and initiatives.
Aecon and OPG share an unwavering commitment to sustainability -- these donations were made possible through the recycling of scrap metal and materials from various projects over the past several years.
Aecon and OPG have a long-standing history of working together on nuclear, electrical transmission and hydroelectric projects, helping to ensure the supply of clean, reliable and affordable electricity to support local communities and global net-zero goals. Aecon and OPG are proud partners on the integrated teams delivering the ongoing Darlington New Nuclear Project and Darlington Nuclear Refurbishment.
Aaron Johnson, Senior Vice President, Aecon Nuclear and Subo Sinnathamby, Chief Projects Officer, OPG proudly presented the donations to representatives from the three benefiting organizations at an event held at OPG’s Darlington Energy Complex in Courtice, Ontario.
“Supporting organizations focused on food security, mental health and youth are key pillars of Aecon’s community engagement strategy and we are proud to partner with OPG to benefit Feed the Need, Ontario Shores, and Big Brothers & Sisters in Clarington this holiday season,” said Johnson.
Feed the Need in Durham distributes 2 million pounds of food each year working in partnership with 65 hunger relief programs, hundreds of volunteers, and thousands of community supporters.
Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences offers a range of assessment and treatment clinics across Durham Region, providing individual, couple and group counselling, medication treatment and various therapies.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarington delivers mentoring programs to over 400 children and youth in communities and schools, helping to improve outcomes in social emotional competence, educational engagement, employment readiness, and mental health and wellbeing.
